Mayfield Is Beaten

The Owensboro Pirates continued their winning streak by paddling Mayfield Clothiers, 8-2, in the first of a three-game series today behind the brilliant pitching of Fitzgerald.

Owensboro tallied two runs In each of the first three frames and another pair in the seventh where Manager Hugh Wise clouted one of the longest home runs ever hit here. Mayfield registered single runs in the fourth and sixth cantos. Neissler, Mayfield catcher, was forced to abdicate in the fifth when he was struck in the head by Justice’s bat.

His condition is not serious and he will be able to resume duty Tuesday. Easley, starting hurler gave way to Wheeler at the start of the ninth.
