Union City Wins

Aided by a pair of home runs, the Union City Greyhounds topped the Owensboro Pirates here today by a 4-3 margin. Circuit clouts by Stringfellow in the sixth frame and Shewey in the seventh, coupled with seven other safeties, more than offset the eight Owensboro hits, one of these home run by Raspburry. Swank went the route for the winners, as did manager Wise for the Buccaners.

The Greyhounds jumped off to a two-run lead in the first on a single by Goldsmith, a pass to Richards, a double by Thompson and an outfield fly. The Pirates knotted the count in the second on Raspburry’s homer, a pass to Wilson and double by Henry.

The locals went into the lead in the third on Hayden’s single and Wise’s double but the pair of four base smashes decided the game.
